Stray on PC: official version and experiment

An official PC route is linked separately below. The records on this page concern the PS5 executable or named homebrew build.

What is established for Stray AnyPS5? Linux gameplay is reported, but the October 17 main-build run needs two startup workarounds. Its DeadCity scene measures about 5.7–5.9 FPS; faster patched results remain separate.

Stray AnyPS5: compatibility evidence

Stray has an official PC edition. These records instead concern the PS5 PPSA02100 executable and selected Linux AnyPS5 builds. The artwork identifies the game and is not a screenshot of an AnyPS5 test. Source ↗

The October 14 follow-up reaches gameplay on main eecf90953 and says the older bring-up patch stack is no longer needed. A later October 17 follow-up documents two new startup hazards and a different performance scene. Its lower FPS is not a like-for-like regression measurement against the earlier scene. Source ↗

For the newer main report, APS5_NO_LIBRARY_PREBUILD=1 avoids a warm-cache startup race, while APS5_STORE_AT_FLIP=1 avoids a later memory-reuse crash in the author’s observed runs. These are build-specific workarounds, not default settings for every title or a guarantee for later main. The author’s faster integration stack includes additional PRs and test switches. Source ↗

Main needs the two documented startup workarounds on this setup. No full playthrough is established. The older 12/24 FPS observations used a different scene and cannot be compared directly.

Historical main snapshot with a different scene from the October 17 measurements. v0.1.2 predates the #5738 startup fix discussed by the tester.

Known limitations

  • A warm-cache library-prebuild/window-attach race and a later storage-image memory-reuse crash require separate workarounds in the October 17 report. Evidence ↗
  • The faster 44df21632 PR stack includes local test switches; its measurements must not be attributed to stock main or the tagged release. Evidence ↗

Reported milestones

Common questions

Do I need AnyPS5 to play Stray on PC?

No. Stray has an official PC edition. This page follows experiments with the separately identified PS5 executable.

Did the frame rate fall from 12 FPS to 5.7 FPS?

The source explicitly says the measurements use different positions and conditions. They are not a controlled before-and-after comparison.

Are the two startup switches permanent requirements?

No. They belong to the named October 17 setup. Check the source revision, merged fixes and a matching report before using them.

Stray AnyPS5: is this a complete playthrough?

The selected reports establish only their recorded scenes and stopping points. None of these entries establishes full-game completion. Read the original report before extending its scope.

Stray AnyPS5: are these minimum requirements?

No. The hardware belongs to a particular reported build and test. It is not a minimum specification, a recommendation for the official PC edition or a prediction for another machine.

Stray AnyPS5: which game edition is tested?

Stray reports here concern the PS5 edition identified by each title ID. Results from another console generation or the official PC edition must be kept separate.

Has Port Record reproduced this test?

No. These are reviewed community reports. Follow the original source for its complete environment; our review date is not a test date.

Stray AnyPS5: prepare the same build

Use the title’s build and patches as your reference. These tools prepare input and compare records; they do not reproduce a test.

To investigate Stray AnyPS5, start from the source attached to the exact platform and build record. Preserve the local patches, game version and observed scene before comparing a new result. A source update can change the context after this review.
